MBPOA EVENTS
The MBPOA holds a variety of events throughout the year. Below is a sampling of what social events we have for our enjoyment. Please check the calendar for upcoming dates!
General Meeting
General Meetings are open to the membership on the first Thursday of each month (unless there is holiday interference) at 7:30pm. Guest speakers from our community will present on different subjects that relate to our membership. Dates for meetings will be put in the newsletter and on the calendar. Dates and times are subject to change at any time, please check the calendar for details. Our membership is a collective voice in our community!
Friday Night Get Together
Our Clubhouse bar is open to members and guests on Friday evenings from 5:30pm till whenever. So far, the evenings have been enjoyable and new friendships established. Stop by and have a drink!
Music Night Cafe at the Clubhouse
Every month there is a Friday Night Music Cafe at the clubhouse where local musicians perform and eclectic mix of modern music for your enjoyment. Come meet your neighbors for socializing, cocktails, snacks and music. Free to members. $3 for non-members.
Ice Cream Social
The Quality of Life Committee hosts old fashioned Ice Cream Socials in June and August. Sponsored by the Ice Cream Cottage in Mastic. A family fun good time. Make your own sundaes, inexpensive drinks, cappuccino, and plenty of old fashioned fun and games for the kids.
Music By The Bay
Live music at sunset will be the highlight of “Music by the Bay,” The free-to-the-public family event will take place at Marina 1 in July. Organized by our Quality of Life Committee, the concert is being presented as a part of the Association’s campaign to heighten awareness of the natural beauty of the Mastic Beach waterfront and to build a sense of community for our area.
Sound Symphony
The Sound Symphony performs its free Summer Pops Concert Series at the MBPOA Clubhouse in July. Cool refreshments will be served.
Snapper Derby
The annual Snapper Derby for children ages 5-12 is held in August at Marina 1. The Snapper Derby is sponsored by the MBPOA and the Mastic Beach Yacht Club. Anglers are asked to bring their own pole (preferably a snapper pole) and are not permitted to use a reel. Parents can bait hooks, but cannot fish. Bait will be provided. Trophies and prizes will be awarded, and hot dogs and soda will be served after each session at the Yacht Club. It’s a fun day for the kids, and for parents as well.
Blue Claw Crab Festival
We hold the Festival in August at Marina 1. Enjoy fresh steamed shrimp, crabs, crab-cakes, clams on the half shell, beer, wine and soda. There will be music and dance performances presented on the show mobile. Children’s activities like face-painting and sand art. A large selection of food vendors and arts and crafts items will be on hand. Free admission to all!
Nite at the Races
Every March we hold Nite at the Races at the clubhouse. We show films of past horse races while having dinner. Admission is $15 per person which included dinner and all the beer, and soda you can drink! (Wine $5 extra.)
Kids Halloween Parade
Starts at Commack Rd. and Neighborhood Rd. and marches to town square (the gazebo on Elder) Children up to age 12 are invited. There will be candy, cookies drinks and treats, as well as a mummy wrap game, spooky stories, music, face painting, and paint your own pumpkin. Bring the kids and enjoy an afternoon of SPOOKtackular fun on Halloween! Each child must be accompanied by an adult. This event is co-sponsored by Legislator Kate Browning, The Mastics, Moriches and Shirley Community Library and the MBPOA.
Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting
On Saturday December 5th to the delight of everyone, Santa arrives by Fire Truck with sirens filling the air. Each child sits on Santa’s lap and receives a coloring book and crayons while posing for a picture. The William Floyd High School Chorus sings Christmas Carols as the tree is lit. The Menorah Lighting happens the first night of Hanukkah on December 11th. Refreshments of hot chocolate, cookies and cupcakes are served by Barbara’s Kitchen.
Holiday Parade
Our creative members put together a fantastic float for the Chamber of Commerce Holiday parade that takes place on Montauk Highway every December. Any member wishing to march in the parade, or help with the float, is welcome to do so.
Member Holiday Party
The December/Christmas Party Meeting is brief with Santa Claus as guest speaker. The hall is beautifully decorated by many of the members on Dec 1st. Much to the surprise and delight of the children, Santa Claus calls them up one by one to receive their gift (provided by parents). The William Floyd String Orchestra performs our favorite holiday songs for our enjoyment. Afterwards a light buffet is served with food prepared by local eating establishments. Coffee and treats are served to complete the magical evening.
New Years Eve Gala
The New Year’s Eve Gala is held December 31st at 8pm cocktails and appetizers We enjoy dinner at 9pm and dancing to the live music as we ring in the New Year. Celebrate with a midnight champagne toast and special dessert buffet. It is the perfect way to welcome in the New Year with your friends and neighbors.
